Fenty Beauty By Rihanna - Multiple product review

Hey Everyone,

I just wanted to share my quick thoughts and feels on the general products.  I bought a bunch of them, but also returned a lot of them. Which is a bit of a spoiler.  I did do a haul video and a follow up video on the products on my Facebook page which you can see HERE.

~~~~~~~~~~
   So As you can see: I bought the foundation (in 120, I am thinking I probably should have got 110) which retails at 42 CAD. The Match Stix Trio in light which is 67 CAD and the blotting powder which was 40 CAD. Overall in terms of prices the foundation is great and the rest is a bit pricy but we're paying for the Rihanna name for sure. I didn't buy any of the powder highlighters because I own far too many as is , though I did test them in store and they were lovely. I returned everything I initially purchased so there aren't very many photos. I apologize. I did go back and buy 2 of the shimmer stix so there is a bright light at the end of the tunnel. The individual stix are 31 CAD but I think are worth it.
Fenty beauty as far as I can find is cruelty free and no word on vegan. (please chime in below I will update if I hear differently)
Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation and Blotting Powder
I want to start by saying Matte formulas and my skin almost never work out. I have acne prone combination skin and that mix with matte just doesn't seem to be pretty. The patch above on my hand has no primer but I did use the new Smashbox Photo Finish Primerizer on my face under this. You can see though right away that it's the wrong colour but also just bringing out every flaw and pore I have. I tried the foundation with both a beauty blender and a brush and I will say it preformed nicer for me with a sponge; though I've heard many people say a brush was better for them.
Fenty's website says about the foundation:
" A soft matte, longwear foundation with buildable, medium to full coverage, in a boundary-breaking range of 40 shades. Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation gives skin an instantly smooth, pore-diffused, shine-free finish that easily builds to medium to full coverage. The oil-free formula is made with climate-adaptive technology that's resistant to sweat and humidity, and won't clog pores so that wherever you are, it's going to work on your skin. Best of all, this long wearing, light-as-air texture is undetectable on skin — so you always look like you."
Quite frankly I disagree with most of it. The coverage is a bit more like light to medium depending on how you put it on but never full coverage (i didn't try layering it but also I dont want to wear to layers of foundation). I will say it was surprising light feeling on the skin. It felt great I wish all foundations felt like that on the skin.  I will also agree with it being long wear as it did last most of the day. However that where they lose me completely. At the end of the day my skin felt TERRIBLE.
(half way through the day, end of day)
As you can see from the pictures above the Foundation lasted on my skin throughout the day fairly well but it just kept getting heavier and heavier looking. At the end of the day My face started looking like an acne filled snake. I had to do heavy cleansing to get it out of my pores and I still ended up with acne I'm still trying to give rid of over a week later now.
I also used the blotting powder on my forehead throughout the day (I have bangs) and I now have acne on my forehead which is pretty rare for me.  I Just over all wasn't thrilled with either products and I didn't want want to test the powder on a different foundation because I already had enough acne after this. Also, the blotting powder was also WAY over priced in my opinion. So I returned both these products to Sephora.
Overall, I really wanted to love this foundation because I love Rihanna and I love how inclusive this brand is but It just didn't work for me. I hope that in the future she will come out with a non-matte formula that might suit me a bit more!
Fenty Beauty Match Stix Trio
OH BOY.. These stix I am very mixed on. The great things about the trio is you are basically getting 1 for free so if there are 2 out of the 3 technically you are getting your money's worth. I suppose but because Fenty Beauty offers so many colours in range of foundation they should have had a bit more separation for their trio sets as well.
This trio also was all over the place for colours. The light colour was VERY yellow and the contour was VERY cool and the shimmer was in the middle. This basically wouldn't work out for anyone. If your skin is very yellow that dark shade is going to look super grey and if you're cool tones the light one will not work for you.
Fenty's website says about the Stix:
"A magnetized trio of longwear, light-as-air makeup sticks curated by skin tone, with two Match Stix MATTE Skinsticks to conceal and contour, and one Match Stix SHIMMER Skinstick to highlight.
Our pre-bundled sets make it easy to conceal, contour, and highlight on repeat. These light-as-air makeup sticks are expertly curated—and magnetize together—so you’re always ready for anything. Each set comes with two Match Stix MATTE Skinsticks (conceal, contour), and one Match Stix SHIMMER Skinstick (highlight)—all of which are weightless, easy to blend, and stay put. The cream-to-powder formulas are so seamless, it’s impossible to tell where skin ends and makeup begins. They’re buildable and LIVE to be layered in a range of combos that light up all skin tones."
To start, the magnetizing thing is cute but a total waste. I would rather pay 5 dollars less and have things just be normal. Also if you have anything else magnet in your purse as your carrying it it's gonna all stick together. Finally, We stopped using magnetized purses because it can demagnetize your debit and credit cards... I'm assuming the magnet in this product is not special and can probably also cause issues if it comes in contact with your card's strip.
The Matte sticks: I really loved the colour of the contour on me but it just didn't blend out the way I wanted to. As you can see from about the "concealer" stick was far too dark for my skin. I will also say that it was more of a highlight then a concealer. It was very thin and had no coverage at all.
The Shimmer, I LOVED! More about them below.
Fenty Beauty Match Shimmer Stix
Just when you thought I was going to be completely negative here comes the shimmer stick love. They are awesome products and of all that I tried things I would buy again.
Though I agree with many reviews that there isn't much product in the highlight.These stix are a little pricey though individually they are 31 CAD. I don't think it's a big deal since they can be used so many ways and you could stick this in your purse (not near your cards lol) and it would be good for multiple "emergency make up". The packaging is cute other then the magnet again. I love the soft pink and silver writing.
What Fenty says:
"Meet the magnetized longwear makeup sticks that come together in two light-as-air finishes and a shade lineup to satisfy your every need: MATTE Skinsticks conceal, correct, and contour. SHIMMER Skinsticks highlight, blush, and enhance—so you can mix and match, magnetize and multiply. Match Stix SHIMMER Skinstick lets you highlight, blush, and enhance with its sick rainbow lineup: 10 universal colors that catch light in ways you never dreamed of. From low-key tangerine sheen to all-out violet iridescence, the longwear cream-to-powder formula is weightless, blendable, and LIVES to be layered. And with a magnetic physical attraction, Match Stix SHIMMER Skinsticks click to each other, to their MATTE Skinstick alter egos, and to their ultimate blending partner, the Portable Highlighter Brush 140. So mix, match, click ’em together and you’re set."
Now the reason I love these is you can use them all over. They can be used as a shimmer shadow, blush, highlighting and even on the lips. I decided to get two colours "Unicorn" and "Yacht Lyfe". Yacht life is a nice pinky peach colour and Unicorn is the purple. I have to say I've worn both a few times now and neither have broken me out like other fenty products and they are completely usable everywhere. (the picture shows swatches done with a a few swipes if you want a more sparkle look just one swipe or putting it on ur finger first before your face is the way to go). I love these and I will probably get more colours in the future.
That's it! What did you think of Fenty Beauty? What are some products you tried? were they hit or miss for you?
On a completely different note. I am filming Halloween looks starting this weekend. What are you dressing up for Halloween as? Is there a video you'd like to see from me?
