Two Free Mascaras Two reviews: Lancôme Monsieur Big Mascara and Revlon Mega Multiplier Mascara

Hey Everyone,

So recently I've received 2 mascaras and I have reviewed them on the sites I received them from too but I thought I would share it for those who do not follow on those pages and with a little more details. I am still plotting Youtube for those who are also wondering. I am hoping to start in Aug/Sept. In the mean time please enjoy my not so regular blogs ;)

Just before the reviews I wanted to reflect a bit. One thing I have noticed over the last few months is how many companies are not cruelty free. Nar's recently announced that they will be selling in China and so they are no longer going to be cruelty free (they didn't add that last part)

It's actually quite shocking how many companies are not cruelty free. I know that as a consumer it's not always financially or physically possible to find things that are cruelty free, reasonably priced and work with sensitive, combination, acne prone skin. I care about animals a lot and generally I want to try to avoid things that are. Both the brands below are NOT cruelty free. If you are curious about brands and like me, want to be a bit more aware when buying this site is great: Cruelty Free Kitty.

Revlon Mega Multiplier Mascara

Quicky Review (out of 5 ❤) :
Price: ❤❤❤❤❤
Quality: ❤❤❤
Value: ❤❤❤❤

I received it free from Influenster to test. Revlon is not cruelty free. It claims to be but like many companies it sells in China and so they are required to by Chinese law.

Revlon Mega Multiplier  mascara retails roughly for 10CAD at places like Walmart and Shoppers drug mart. It is about average for a drugstore brand. On Revlon's website this product promises to be smudge free, flake free, extreme volume and length. It also mentions that it should be easy to remove.

The first thing I noticed and immediately hated: the bottle. I do not understand why but a lot of drug store brands seem to try to make their brushes and bottles look unique and it's completely unnecessary. Spend the time on making a good mascara and you wont need fancy packaging.

As you can see from the photo (this was about half way through the day) that the mascara provides a decent amount of volume and length. It is nothing spectacular but for the price point I think it's pretty great. I applied about 2 layers of mascara in this photo. As you can see I missed the corner of my eye possibly due to shape of the brush. It didn't curl my lashes at all and unfortunately my lashes seem to have gotten a bit straighter throughout the day but this may have been better with some primer under.

The Mascara lasted all day without problem. I have worn this mascara many time since because I like how long lasting it is. It doesn't flake or smudge throughout the day as promised. It is definitely water proof as my eye water and the areas around my eye tends to get a bit oily.

I found that this mascara is easier then something like Benefit to remove however it was still required cleansing oil to get rid of it.

Overall, I think this a great mascara for the price point. I really like the natural look and not so clumpy lashes it created with very little effort. I don't think I personally will be repurchasing it as it's not cruelty free but I would recommend it for those who are on a budget and want a decent mascara. Of the two mascaras I am reviewing this is the one I actually like more.

Lancôme Monsieur Big Mascara

Quicky Review (out of 5 ❤) :

I really liked Lancome Hypnose mascara back in the day so I was very excited to try this one. I received it free from Chick Advisor to test. Lancome for those who are wondering is not cruelty free.

Lancôme Monsieur Big retails at 31CAD which is about average for mid range mascaras. It comes in 1 colour which is the colour I was given ;) The mascara promises to be big volume, long lasting, no flakes, no smudges and easy to apply. Lancome's website also says it is safe for sensitive skin, eye and those who wear contacts. I have tried the mascara with and without primer over the last couple days to get a full experience.

(Left with out Primer, Right with Primer)

It definitely provides this as you can see from my picture. It definitely applies easily and adds volume. It doesn't particularly add to length and curl. I recommend for a more natural look to only apply 1 layer with primer. Adding more layers made things look a bit too spidery (also with primer) Overall I think for my personal preference even one layer makes my eyelashes look a bit too spidery.

I wouldn't say that this mascara is super long lasting. Throughout the day without primer I found that my bottom lash line disappeared. I didn't see flakes or smudges it just seemed to have come off. I will say with primer it was much better. However, if you have oily skin or watery eyes it doesn't hold for a 8-12 hr day. I wore glasses these test days just to make sure it's not me touching my eyes. I will say on the positive it did seem to last on the upper lashes all day even without a primer. So it was clearly due to my eyes watering or oily skin. So clearly it is not long lasting or waterproof for all skin types.

I will say it was easy to remove. Mostly because half of it was off by the end of the day. ha ha...

Over all this style lashes is not for me. I prefer something a bit more natural if i'm not wearing false lashes and that maybe my watery eye and oily skin is just too much to keep it on all day. I think for this price point there are much nicer mascaras.
